Summary/Abstract: In these Chapters I have related the development of transposition, transcoding, and transmutation, as operating on translation, reconstructing transduction and back again. After Chapters 1–4. which were about the most significant factors of the theory and the fundamental premises of the semiotic methodology, Chapter 5 illustrated the critical concepts with the patterns of aesthetic practice. In the examples, transposition was referred to in Thoreau’s example of nature transfigured into Homeric epics, transposition in Grieg’s transcoding from Ibsen’s theatre play into musical arrangements, while transmutation was discussed as Dalí’s “found object” changed in feminine and effeminate layers of strangeness in the decorated sculpture of Venus.
