Summary/Abstract: Peirce’s three categories have already been summarized in the previous chapters (Chapters 1, 2). Firstness, Secondness, and Thirdness have there made their entrée as separate modalities with suggestive or interrogative, indicative, and imperative appeals in semiotic signs. However, signs work not in isolation but function as semiotic signs together in social semiosis. In semiosis, the three categories blend together in the proactive or interactive position of an infinite series of speechactions (such as guesses, instructions, and commands) to interpret or translate the signs in Peirce’s interpretants. The interpretants are represented in the variety of interpretations and translation (target) of the original sign or signs (source), expressed in the ahistorical context for the sense of future time and space.
