Summary/Abstract: The aim of the text entitled `Diversity in academic culture. Seekingof outsider`s identity` is an analysis of a problem: how does freedom asa main virtue of academic society influence on functioning in social roles ofits participants? How does it contribute to developing of self consciousness ofsubjects in university life? Who in fact are outsiders apart from being people onthe edges of academic community?-they are only some introducing questions.Main theoretical approaches applied in the text are following: TalcottParson`s concept of a university, interactive dimension of social roles, ambivalencein scholars roles, mobbing as a kind of social interaction, humanas an author of her/his biography in the reflection of Ulrich Beck. In thesecond part of the text author presents main biographical orientations ofoutsiders as well as some trajectories describing a process of constructingoutsiders` identity.In the conclusion there is also an attempt to describe who in fact outsideris and what are the main indicators of this attitude and auto-identification.
