Summary/Abstract: The article presents the linguistic characteristics of the family of words of onomatopoeic origin, funded by cmok. The image of the cmok and cmokać in contemporary Polish consists of a semantic, stylistic and functional description derived from two sources: Polish language dictionaries and Polish language corpora. The analysis of sources shows, among others emotional scale: at the positive pole there are primitive meanings, referring to the natural motivation, that is to the loud sound accompanying physical activity (for example, cmokać z zachwytu / ze zdziwienia, cmokać się) at the negative pole – secondary, metaphorical meanings, related to actions and behaviors (for example cmokier, cmokierstw, and connections used to extinguish the contact, such as możesz mnie cmoknąć, cmoknij się), pragmatics: the latest connections with the verb to enter the repertoire of expressive language means in will be general, though outside the norm; life of words: they come from the use of people: cmokier, and a polite gesture: cmoknonsens.
