Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is an analysis of selected ways of update of phrasal verbs (canonical and innovative) in the novel of Janina Broniewska, released just after the war, entitled: "O człowieku który się kulom nie kłaniał". In detailed schedule in the paper, an attempt of determination of functions of phraseological modifications was undertaken. The text inscribes in an area of current studies on public discourse. The analyzed work for children and youth was written by authoress representing a certain political option, and the task of this work was based on an creation – in accordance to forced in the period of the Polish People’s Republic – of the image of Karol Świerczewski as a model of national hero.
