Summary/Abstract: The passage of time has shown that, especially in former communist countries, the transition to a market economy has long prevented a rapid alignment to the EU requirements. Crises due to political and armed conflicts have affected economies during the reform process and hence the domestic market. Both regionally and globally, countries are closely connected and interdependent. Tracking patterns of interdependence is also important to see the possible forms of influence that the crisis may have. The crisis has affected on global scale unemployment, public debt grew and worsened the state of public finances in general, and thus foreign investment dried up sources of financing, which fueled the growth economies such as the Balkans. Given the current global economic situation, the return to what it was before the crisis is very slow, is not likely to soon reach the previous level of FDI in the Balkans. In addition, there are countries that can not be based on previous sectors to attract investors and thus need to find new ways to do this.
