Summary/Abstract: The text revolves around the triad mentioned in the title, namely utopia, necessity and opportunity. The paper provides an overview of a humanistic approach, including consideration and, to some extent, acceptance of its utopian nature. Numerous arguments support the thesis that this particular paradigm is difficult to apply in academic didactics, requires specific teachers’ preparations and their willingness to undertake the role of facilitator towards other people, not only as experts in their respective areas of expertise. Another difficulty is that it requires to shift emphasize from mass education to individual, student-oriented approach that takes students cognitive capabilities into account. Attempt will be made herein to prove that acknowledgement of humanistic paradigm is not only necessary due to diversified teaching-learning paths followed by students in order to obtain various educational outcomes, but also provides an opportunity of more extensive use of academic tutoring in the area of students’ teaching as well as individual, coaching-based support for the development of academic teachers in terms of didactic functions they fulfill.
