Summary/Abstract: This article is a call for a more in-depth discussion over the role of nuclear deterrence and BMD within the national defense framework. The appeal is directed toward Central Eastern European countries participating in the BMD. It primarily depicts the impact of the paradigm shift onto the hard-power defense community, specifically the sub-field of nuclear deterrence. The scope is limited to changes in the nuclear field that shaped the current strategic environment for Central-Eastern European[*]. The findings emphasize the need for more in-depth discussion regarding consequences of changes, more active participation in negotiations and decision making processes, based on a strategic cost-benefit analysis.
