Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to the contribution of Sigismund Natanovich Valk to the study of the theory of archeography: principles and techniques of selection and publication of the text, the need to publish all the surviving versions of the text; origin of the term “archeography”, archeographical “legend”, the meaning and evolution of these concepts; relationship and interaction between archeography and archive studies, textual criticism, source study.
