Summary/Abstract: This article is the outcome of several months of observing conversations between teachers and children from Wrocław. I researched the relationship between the nature of the teacher’s work in the early stages primary school (teaching according to the basic plan, methods and forms of work, books, individual style of communication with students) and the level of students’ verbal competences. I described the nature of teacher’s role in the learning process.
