Traditional wedding customs of the Vlachs from Northwest Bulgaria (Parallels whit traditional wedding in Vratsa)

Summary/Abstract: In the present message, based on on-site research, a parallel has been developed between elements of the traditional Bulgarian and Vlach wed¬dings. Traditional elements on the Vlach side incorporate specific rituals and terminology. They stand out with high stability but do not remain isolated from the influence of Bulgarian tradition. The Vlach wedding emerges in front of us as a rich occurrence of the Bulgarian culture, which has preserved through the centuries the semantics of timelessness. Wed¬ding rituality keeps existing not as a mass practice but as an isolated oc-currence, maintained by a tradition, preserved by the elderly population.
