Summary/Abstract: Article is dedicated to the sculptural works of Belgian artist Georges Minne (1866-1941) and his oeuvre is put into context of symbolist ideas and, on the other hand, into the context of formal qualities of Art Nouveau. His work takes its very special position just because of the artist’s unique ability to inсorporate in sculptures the vague and very unclearly defined ideas of Symbolism. Symbolist theory is perceived in this articles mostly through the words of great Belgian playwright Maurice Maeterlinck (contemporary and friend of G. Minne) and there is undertaken an attempt to compare formal and stylistic qualities of Maeterlinck’ heroes and sculptures by Georges Minne. Also articles contains an analysis of the evolution of Georges Minnes’ works from his early beginnings in the mid 1880-es and up to his major creation - Fountain of the Kneeling Youths, 1898. One of the aspects of analysis is also the unique position of G. Minne’ works in sculpture at the turn of the centuries, in some respects his plastic ideas were opening the way to the 20th century sculpture in general and expressionism in particular.
