Summary/Abstract: The article considers responses in Russian periodicals of the 1870s and 1880s to the work of Hans Makart, the major Austrian artist of the period. It also includes new information (omitted from the catalogue raisonné of Makart’s works, published in 2013 by G. Frodl) about his pictures held in private collections and shown at various exhibitions in Russia (in the St Petersburg Academy of Arts, at the Society for the Encouragement of Artists, and other venues).
