Summary/Abstract: The author focuses on the participatory governance in the cultural heritage institutions. This practice empowers citizens, communities and experts to take part in the processes of governance. The paper reviews different perspectives and problems undermining its application in institutions like museums, libraries, archives. Possible activities, objectives and participants of such a governance are also discussed, as a way to further democratize institutions and harness the community’s potential for useful action.
