Summary/Abstract: The author shows the attributes of impressionism (painting themes, symbolism, natural, supernatural, legendary past) in Ferenc Liszt’s oeuvre, and analyses Liszt’s music comparing it to Ravel’s and Debussy’s. Liszt, like Debussy, used the program as a framework to the thoughts, emotions and feelings. The consequences are that the impressionism is not a coherent system in the composer’s life, but his epoch-making technique of piano knowledge contributed the impressionism’s pre-history.
