Underground coal gasification in Poland

Summary/Abstract: Energy producers and its recipients, as well as environmentalists and researchers are more and more interested in underground coal gasification. Poland has significant coal resources which makes the issue particular important for the country as coal gasification could become an additional source of energy. The purpose of the paper is to show the significance of underground coal gasification and the development of this technology in Poland. The article presents both positive and negative effects of coal gasification, in particular environmental risks that have occurred in various parts of the world. These problems make it impossible to use underground coal gasification on an industrial scale in a close future.
