Summary/Abstract: The strategic importance of the Black Sea region for the EU was recognized in the context of EU accession of Romania and Bulgaria which define a new policy approach towards the region, called Black Sea Synergy has been proposed by the European Commission in April 2007, officially launched at the EU level and actors in the region at the Kiev Ministerial Conference, in February 2008. The Black Sea Synergy aim is to develop regional cooperation between the EU and neighbouring countries, and cooperation within the region.
