Summary/Abstract: The author studies the presence of the early Slavs living within the Byzantine State, from the perspective of administration, fiscal policy, and society (late-6th/early-7th – 10th c. A.D.). The paper is divided in three main parts: a) the administrative and fiscal status of the Slavs in the Southern Balkans, b) the population transfers from the Balkans to Asia Minor, c) the integration of the early Slavs in the Byzantine State and society.
