Creations of Little Homelands

Summary/Abstract: In this article the author conducts, first of all, a reconstruction of the connections between the concept of little homelands and the 20th-century tradition of Polish sociology using Stanisław Ossowski’s concept as an example; she indicates how studies into local communities analysed in the context of individual experiences on the one hand, and regional and national experiences on the other, gain from the inspirations drawn from Ossowski’s work on the private homeland and ideological homeland. Secondly, she deals with the connections between the concept of little homelands embraced by qualitative studies of local communities and the concepts of emotions and particularly with object concepts, drawn respectively from the dictionaries for the sociology of emotions and the sociology of objects. Via these two types of analysis the author attempts to substantiate the usefulness deriving from these two different types of theoretical adoption (namely from the concept of Stanisław Ossowski, as an outstanding sociological individuality, and from the fundamental concepts of one of the sub-disciplines of sociology) for the theoretic conceptualisation of little homelands useful for ˋreformˊ in the conducting of empirical studies in local communities.
