Summary/Abstract: Review of the biographical book: “Petar Mateev – autobiography, memories, activity”. The first part of the book is a scientific biography and was written by Aleka Stresova. She used many documentary resources on the life and activity of Peter Mateev. These resources are housed today at the Central State Archives – Sofia, the Bulgarian Historical Archive of the National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”, the Scientific Archives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Historical Museum in Kotel, the British Library and the British Museum in London. The second, bigger part of the book, presents the autobiography of Peter Mateev. The paper points that until today his personality is little known to the Bulgarian public. It also provides short biographical details about Peter Mateev. An emphasis is placed on his contribution to the construction of the young Bulgarian state at the end of the 19th and early 20 th century.
