Summary/Abstract: Mankind is a social human being that is forced to live in a society. This situation brings economic and social risks with itself that have been increased with the further development of the economy. Thus material and spiritual losses have reached at an enormous level. Several methods had been developed throughout the history for protecting from the negative effects of the economic risks. Current modern societies struggle with possible risks due to an insurance system as well. For this purpose Muslim societies developed Takaful Insurance System. How Takaful Insurance System has been maintained within the concepts of social security and social assistance of the Islamic economies must be clearly defined in this study. The aim of this article is to give an overview about Takaful Insurance System that plays an important part in an Islamic economy. Moreover, this article explores in which countries and how this system has been implemented.
