The standard of living and economic situation in North Korea

Summary/Abstract: Purpose This text is just an overview intended to outline the problems, realities and living standards in North Korea. Design/methodology/approach The paper constitutes an overview of the information collected by the author in North Korea in 2009. The advantage of this work is that the information is received at first hand, mostly as a result of observation, which took place in Pyongyang and the surrounding area. Originality/value Moreover, the reader may find it valuable that the article provides a brief catalogue of prices, which was elaborated in a diplomatic shop but, nevertheless, reflects the real prices for a small number of North Korean purchasers who own foreign currency
