Summary/Abstract: The primary aim of this paper is to present an overview of the specificity of continental appeal systems in criminal cases. Introductory considerations are followed by a presentation of the paths taken by German and French law systems from the very first historical attempts to regulate appeal proceedings until the adoption of relevant regulation in criminal procedures. The author’s primary objective is to prove the article’s main thesis about the superiority of the French appeal model over the German “revision” system.
