Summary/Abstract: In the contemporary world of new technologies, when different scientific fields are developing at a very fast pace, the already existing and new knowledge must be systematized and standardized. The distinctive features of each academic concept as well as its position within the system of knowledge are reflected in its definition that structurally consists of a number of prototypic information blocks. Certain language units appear to be very frequently used to construct these information blocks and link together the ideas expressed in the definition. The research focuses on the structural and semantic peculiarities of such key words and word combinations that form a relatively limited body of productive language units for each information block. As far as the structure is concerned, both single-word units and word combinations that differ in the number of components are discussed. Single key words may vary in form depending on the context and have derivatives. The body of key word combinations is much larger for each information block. Such word combinations frequently contain words that belong to different parts of speech. Depending on the type of information blocks, certain prepositions may only function as constituent elements of these word combinations while others can be used independently to express a particular systemic relation. Some non-lexical means that are common for only certain information blocks are considered. It is also discussed that the semantic features of key words vary depending on the type of information block. Among these are lexemes with a broad and more specific meaning.
