Usage and Educational Value of Cartoons in Turkish Education

Summary/Abstract: One of the important factors determining the efficiency in language education is the design of the educational environment and the use of materials in this frame. In this study, 'cartoons' which have functional values in Turkish teaching but not utilized as much as necessary are considered. The study first deals with the characteristics of the cartoon as a pedagogical material in educational settings, its types and the importance of using it in education and the literary works on cartoon are mentioned. In addition is emphasized the status of the cartoon placement in Turkish Teaching Programme published in 2005 and following years. At the end of the study, given place course activity including cartoon studies to illustrate its usefulness as a pedagogical material enriching Turkish education text processing process of cartoon.
