Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of XXIst century, we are facing a dynamic, flexible international world. The neo-westphalian trend supports again the predominance of the nation-state as a central actor of the international order; together with this concept, scholars are starting to analyze and search for new meanings of several other concepts as sovereignty, sovereign state, national independence, and national security. Trump administration’s new strategic directions are emphasizing the visible, direct link between sovereignty and national border; other directions are inserting a balance between the need of responding to global challenges (as combating the international Islamic terrorism) and the tendency of denouncing some agreements perceived as ”global”. In our opinion, and considering that the international game of power is not yet crystallized, it can be interpreted as a moderate, selective strategic direction (until present) of rejecting the global dossiers. Also, the present challengers from this international system, that supported until now a traditional trend of policy based on the doctrine of national interest priority -as a modality to contest the American global option-, are staying before a dilemma: either to remain loyal to their traditional strategic line (westphalian), either to renounce to such traditional strategic line (based on the doctrine of national interest, as modality to manifest certain opposition to the American globalism), and to convert themselves in promoters of some forms of alternative globalism, as a new kind of opposition to the American neo-westphalism. Regarding the evolution of the ”sovereignty” concept, we can say that it is reinforced, due to the WH political trend to re-assume the neo-westphalism.
