Summary/Abstract: After 1905, no written materials about the process of pre-school youth were available. Also, the years 1906 – 1918 are also not documented, because the First World War and its preparation disrupted both the economic and educational system in the former Austro-Hungary. The name of the famous pedagogue John Amos Comenius will immediately tell us the purpose, why the institute with his name was founded for. Unlike other educational institutes, Comenius Institute educated craftsmen, giving to inmates the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills both practical and theoretical in the field of his own choice. The Comenius Institute was the only one of its kind in the Czechoslovak Republic, it was a nation-wide institute, with inmates in "social care" and minor offenders with the aim of further re-education.
