Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the organization of the administration of justice in Ancient Rome. Emphasis is placed on the models of implementing the Roman public authority in the provinces and the formation of jurisdictions there, the protection given from the Roman law to the Roman citizens and the introduction of this law for the local population and foreigners as in some cases preserving the existing organizational models and legal traditions. On the basis of the most important literary, legal and epigraphic sources are described the main principles of the judicial administration in the Roman Empire and its evolution between the end of the Republic and the first decades of the Principate. In the article are outlined the different levels of organization and the distribution of powers between the representatives of the Roman and the local authorities. It is assumed that the jurisdiction is related to the stability of the Roman provincial system and is one of the constituent elements of Roman imperialism, regardless of the recognized degree of autonomy of local communities.
