Summary/Abstract: This paper aims at pointing out certain problems that may occur in the course of the mediation proceedings in family law disputes, overcoming of which does not involve the application of solely legal, but also psychological knowledge and skills on mediator’s part. The causes of numerous obstacles to reaching agreement in family law disputes the author recognizes in the effects of psychological factors, such as optimistic overconfidence, risk tolerance or loss aversion, reactive devaluation, justice seeking etc. At the end of the paper, potential family law mediators are offered some specific approaches to solving these problems.
