Summary/Abstract: The psychological work (counseling, psychotherapy, sexologist intervention) with a homosexual patient should be analyzed from two sides. On the one hand this is a nonspecific work, because regardless of sexual orientation people share universal needs, desires and conflicts. On the other hand, the actions undertaken by specialists in the area of mental health towards gays and lesbians must be specific to a certain degree. A group of homosexual patients has in their life story some unique experiences, such as building a minority sexual identity, “coming out” or struggling with discrimination. In addition, it is important to always answer the question – how much space during therapy or interventions should be addressed to issues related to the homosexual identity and what phenomena may appear on the side of the therapists during such work.
