Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to define the sui generis concept of financial security of local government units and discusses the selected instruments enabling it to achieve. Systemic, legal, economic and technical instruments of financial security of local government units are considered. The article also includes the latest solutions in this field, or the practical application of fiscal rules, long-term financial forecast. These latter instruments are differently evaluated in the literature.
