Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the importance of Irish language in the context of cultural identity of the Irish. Specifically, the text is divided into several chapters and subchapters dealing with the concept of cultural identity, interconnection of identity and culture, identity and language as well as revival of Irish language in the Republic of Ireland. Concerning today´s support of Irish language we focus on the principal organizations aimed at preservation and cultivation of the given language and on their main activities. Last but not least we also include specific challenges education and language policies have to deal with in the long-term period.
