Summary/Abstract: Mary is rightly called the Mother of God’s mercy. This is spoken by her gifting on the basis of God’s mercy, preparing her for the mission she fulfills in God’s plan of salvation and her testimony. Both of them – according to the encyclical Redemptoris Mater – are realized in the Church thanks to the mission of Mary to the new People of God, based on the unique and unique relationship with Jesus Christ. As the Mother of the incarnate Word she is the Mother of the Church. Her divine motherhood and therefore participation in the mission of Jesus Christ, determines not only that she is the prototype and guide, but also the mother of mercy, addressing especially the poor and the needy. Following historically Jesus and remaining with him in unity in eschatology, she goes with the People of God through the temporal nature of the Church, leading them to eschatological fulfillment and revealing God’s mercy accomplished in Jesus Christ. Therefore, in the same dimension and in the sense in which she is the Mother of God and Mediatrix in the only mediation of the Son – as he puts it in his Marian encyclical John Paul II – in the same sense she remains the Mother of the Church and the Mother of God’s mercy.
