Summary/Abstract: This paper presents gynecological and endocrynological aspects of sexual health and development. Biological, influencing women sexuality during puberty are discused. Women’s sexual cycle is a result of interdependent processes, which take place on the hypothalamus – pituary – ovarian axis. The main place for neuroendocrinal control on the axis is hypothalamus which secretes GnRH. This is where the integration of central and peripheral signals takes place, which has an influence on the proper functioning of the axis. The research has proved that the ovarian action is also influenced by paracrine and autocrine factors secreted by the ovaries. They act either locally or as modulators of gonadotrophins. This suggests that ovaries should be treated as a ‘biological clock” used for regulating reproductive functions.
