Summary/Abstract: In the study, the achievement levels of dimension of melodic and rhythmic hearing of students passing the special talent examination test, Educational Year 2007 – 2008, for Main Scientific Branch of Musical Education of Gazi Educational Faculty, Gazi University, were investigated. The universe of study consists of 259 students passing the first stage of special talent examination test, Educational Year 2007 – 2008, for Main Scientific Branch of Musical Education of Gazi Educational Faculty, Gazi University. The sample of study consists of 47 students passing the special talent examination test for Main Scientific Branch of Musical Education of Gazi Educational Faculty, Gazi University, and 3 lecturers taking charge in the dimension of polyphonic hearing, melodic and rhythmic hearing of special talent examination test. In the scope of this study, the achievement points of students passing the special talent examination test were tabulated by using frequency and percent; the opinion of specialists were received about being able to develop the skills of melodic, hearing, and rhythmic hearing; and the content analysis of opinions were carried out. Based on the findings obtained as a result of study, in the tune hearing dimension of 8 beats of exam it was seen that the students were able to repeat minimum , 1 beats and maximum 5 beats, while in the dimension of rhythm hearing of 8 beats, they were able to repeat minimum 2 beats and maximum 6 beats. In also both dimensions. no student giving all of 8 beats was met. The conclusion obtained from the findings based on the method of interview applied is in the direction that tune and rhythmic memory can be developed, beginning from the small ages.
