Sexuality throughout world’s religions

Summary/Abstract: It is assumed that the there is over ten thousand different religions and faiths in the world. Religious mosaic is formed mainly from: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism and others. Sexuality is one of the fundamental elements of human life and the notion of sexual norms varies, depends on the current scientific knowledge, cultural factors and at last, but not least depends on the religion, occurring in the specific area. However, different religions have different codes of sexual morality that rule sexual activity by assigning only some sexual behaviors as acceptable. Particularly interesting are those sexual habits, which in some cultures are considered a sacred duty, and others are completely unacceptable. The purpose of this article is to present the views of five major world religions (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Judaism) on various aspects of human sexuality and family planning. The Declaration of Sexual Rights of the WHO is also presented as a neutral voice speaking over traditions, beliefs and cultures, and entering a challenge for sexual health rights.
