Summary/Abstract: Hypoactive sexual desire disorder – HSDD – is the most common type of female sexual dysfunction – FSD. It occurs among women of all ages. Women are reluctant to discuss sexual difficulties with their physicians so HSDD is often underdiagnosed. The investigations suggest that direct questioning by doctors is often critical to diagnose hypoactive sexual desire disorder. Another obstacle to the identification of HSDD is the considerable overlap in symptoms of various types of female sexual dysfunction (FSD). Current methods of treatment of HSDD are limited. The new investigations suggest that effective treatment of HSDD is possible.
