DRAMA AS A WAY TO THE HEIGHT OF SPIRIT. ANDREI BELY AND HENRIK IBSEN: THE HISTORY OF THE DIALOGUE

Summary/Abstract: The questions of reception, reflection and transformation of the narrative-figurative and ideological layers of Henrik Ibsen’s dramasby Andrei Bely are raised in the article. The first philological interpretation of the drama of the founder of the West-European “newdrama” is given in the article on the basis of the Russian symbolist’s works. Apart from that, the link between the early works ofAndrei Bely in the symbolist period and the last novel Moscow (1926–1932) is drawn through the interchange of images and motifs.The emphasis is placed on two key points of the interpretation of Ibsen’s creativity: the subject of the fate and the associated motifof the mountain (spiritual) ascent of characters. Andrei Bely‘s interpretations of the narrative-figurative layer of plays by an eminentNorwegian writer are presented in the context of his original concept of dramatic art in the early twentieth century and a crucialsymbolist idea – the alignment of life and creativity.
