Summary/Abstract: The author, reader and hero relationship in literature is not only a signifier but also a constitutive element of the relationship between “I” and the “other” in social life. In this study, the intention of the author, reader and the hero is discussed through an interpretation regarding social ontology and literary theory. This effort is not limited to the thinking on social relations by means of literary principles. It is an effort of thinking on the link between the literature, art, science, philosophy and life. Umberto Eco criticizes the stress on the intentions of writer and reader by calling that kind of a relation as overinterpretation. Instead he expresses the importance of the intention of the text. In this sense, the forms of nontextual speaking and interpretation must remain loyal to the context. However, when nonlinguistic elements of literature are taken into account, Bakhtin’s concept of dialogue and his social ontology associated with it become extremely important. Bakhtin’s concepts of “responsibility”, “heteroglossia”, “participatory thought” make it possible to think dialogic non-literary social reality as an ethical and legal framework. For Bakhtin, the truth of existence is dialogic and dialogue is the precondition for all kinds of knowledge. In this literary perspective, it is possible to scatter concepts such as life, art, people and truth into each other and combine them into one’s responsibility.
