Some Prominent Critics Of Modern Arabic Literature

Summary/Abstract: By the second half of the 19th century, modern Arabic Literature went under a substantial process of revival and development by means of its internal efforts. Until 19th century, the literary criticism had adopted ancient methods which consisted of mere grammatical and linguistic examination of the texts. The use of printing press had a positive influence on the increase of literary works, and in parallel with the development in poetry, literary criticism about poetry had flourished. At the beginning of the 20th century, the literary criticism for poetry had expanded towards and included prose literature. Huseyn el-Mirsafî, Abdulkâdir el-Mâzinî, Mîâ’îl Nu’ayme, Abdur¬ramân Şukrî are some of the prominent names of critics in the modern era.
