The study was designed based on general screening model. Independent sample t test and ANOVA test were used in data analysis. The analysis of findings obtained as result of the study reveals that female teacher candidates have a higher level of competence in working independently and taking responsibility in comparison with male teacher candidates, and additionally, the students who stated that they participated in a scientific research before, compared to those who did not, have also a higher level of competence in working independently and taking responsibility. However, it was found that the teacher candidates' competence in working independently and taking responsibility has no statistically significant relationship with the variables such as considering/not considering to have post graduate education and taking/not taking research methods course among the teacher candidates.
