Summary/Abstract: The authors analyze the events and the situation in Bessarabia in the autumn of 1917, presenting the activity of the Moldovan Military Congress, which took the initiative and the responsibility for the destiny of the province by declaring, on 21 October, the political and territorial autonomy of Bessarabia, and on 23 October set the foundations of the legislative body of the country, Sfatul Țării (Country Council), the Parliament of the Moldovan Democratic Republic.
