Summary/Abstract: The aim of this research is to examine the awareness of science teacher candidates on nanotechnology. In total 184 teacher candidates studying at first (40), second (52), third (55) and fourth (37) grade participated in the research. The study conducted using the survey model at the Department of Science Education. Four questions were implemented to the science teacher candidates. Data was analyzed using content analysis. It was determined that all of teacher candidates heard nanotechnology. It was determined that they heard about the concept of nanotechnology mostly through school, television, internet, book/film about science fiction and newspaper/magazines. Some teacher candidates described nanotechnology as “controlling the material at the atomic and molecular level”. Some of them characterized nanotechnology as “dimension that is much smaller at the atomic and molecular level”. Some of them expressed that “nanotechnology is a superior technology in micro dimension and in advanced degree in the context of the nature of technology”. An important part of teacher candidates said that nanotechnology is useful and not risky. Some teacher candidates said that nanotechnology is both useful and risky. Nearly half of teacher candidates expressed benefits of nanotechnology in terms of “application area and quality of life”. A small number of teacher candidates indicated risks of nanotechnology in terms of “health, safety, purpose and form of using”. As a result of the research, it was determined that science teachers candidates' awareness about the concept of nanotechnology is low.
