Summary/Abstract: The Feminist movement that developed after the 1960s became effective in making visible the isolated female identity and culture by the dominant male gaze. This personal and visual expression of ‘identity’ has began to show itself in visual arts like rebellion. Women's attempts to prove their existence in the art world still continue while they struggle between their social roles as mother, wife and businesswoman and the inherent responsibilities. Concepts such as social gender, family and loneliness become visible in women's works either metaphorically, or realistically structured relating to the 'body'. This study is about the reflections of gender roles in art and themes of 'womanhood' and are evaluated through works stemming from the artists’ personal, cultural, psychological experiences.
