IMPORTANCE IN TERMS OF MUSEOLOGY OF COMPOSING COLLECTION MANAGEMENT POLICY AND REGULATORY FACTORS

Summary/Abstract: Museums are important institutions that inform the society of historical and contemporary cultural artifacts, be influence on development and education of persons in cultural sense. Alongside transferring to the society specific historical knowledge and being one of the important educational appliances, these places have reached more visitors by innovative approaches today. Increasing of the audience of museums is bound up being has given due importance to the collections by the museums first of all. Because the collections are principal units which call into being a museum. According to today’s understanding of museology, managing a collection is a necessary and exacting act as creating a collection. Parameters like criteria of collecting the materials which will compose the collection, documentation, protection and maintenance of the materials, methods of exhibition, conceptional dimension which is expected to be built between the collection and the visitor have emphasized the necessity of collection management policies. There are various decisive factors of making a collection management policy. In this sense, in order to prevent failure and to attain the results intented with regards to the museology principles, these factors should be taken into consideration. In this research, clarification of importance of making collection management policy in terms of museology and identifying of regulatory factors have been aimed. In the research, document analysis method as data gathering technique has been applied, written sources related to the issue have been used. The issue has been quoted from the documents and has referred to the documents, data have been interpreted by editing in terms of the subjects and the subjects have been correlated. In consideration of the obtained findings in the research, the effect of composing a collection management policy in getting at degree of the contemporary museology and providing the experiences which are wanted to have been created on the visitors in accordance with the targets of the museum and importance of the factors being influence on this procedure have been emphasized.
