Storage Concept of Surplus Product and Storage Container in Ancient Time

Summary/Abstract: This study aims to underline the concept of storage and its application process by examining the context storage vessels in two fold. First of all, pithoi have been examined by their typological, decorative and technical layouts. Within this context, production techniques were discussed with the helping of archaeological and ethno-archeological data in general terms, by discarding periodical distinction. On the other hand, the archaeological context in which they were discovered, were evaluated under the discussion of ancient economy by means of their roles and functional qualities. Consequently, storage vessels, which take back seat in the pottery studies in archaeology, offer strong bindings about production and distribution network, provide understanding on local communities as well as complex ones by throwing light on economical-political ties with the helping archaeometrical applications.
