Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the basic design lectures given in the freshman year of Fine Art Faculties, the conceptual practices used in contemporary art and to actualize the three-dimensional practice processes by means of concepts on an intellectual background. The postmodern discourses that emphasizes the intellectual processes, necessitates the search for new languages in art education. In this context this study focuses on students to shape their designs with an idea based solid background while offering new practice possibilities as a continuation of the holistic approach tried to be given at Bauhaus Design School in 20th century. In this study, Basic Design, Basic Design Education, Concepts in Contemporary Art topics are discussed and examples of transition from concepts to three-dimension ın the basic design education are given. The sample of this study constitutes of the first semester Basic Design three-dimensional final projects of students from Gazi University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Visual Communication Design.
