Summary/Abstract: Laicite in Turkey has been a controversial issue. Religion is an important part of that controversy. In Turkey, there always has been a mass interest towards religion even though members of the secular culture thought and assumed religion as a hindering factor to the development and modernization of Turkey. Since new Turkey was found on the laicite principle Imam Hatib schools have been a focal point in the political and social life. This study examines the evolvement of these schools in the process. In addition to that it aims to examine the effects of some political and social events on the Imam Hatib schools in Turkey.
