Suburbanization and the role of areas surrounding cities – a theoretical approach

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problems of urban development in the context of links between cities and their surrounding areas, with a particular emphasis on the role of suburban areas in suburbanization. Based on the literature of the subject, the functions of suburban areas, which appear during the processes of urbanization, have been analyzed thoroughly, which allowed the author to indicate the specificity of the present suburban zone.
