Sultanism in Albania

Summary/Abstract: For almost 2 decades after the collapse of the totalitarian regime, Albanian transition seems more infinite than ever. Time has shown that the coming of the so called “democratic system” was nothing but a failure. On these conditions the democratization – in the real sense of the term – of the country still today looks too far. Albanian totalitarianism is one of the most rare examples of world’s despotic systems, a fact that still influences the transition of this country. This work will analyze the past despotic rule, which will be treated as the major cause of the infinitude of country’s transition and the key features of which still dominates Albania’s process of democratization.
